2025 WELLCRAFT 38 EXPLORER

Imagine pulling back three throttles and feeling 1,050 horses surge beneath your feet. The bow lifts. The world blurs. The BC coastline stretches out ahead of you — the Gulf Islands, Desolation Sound, the Inside Passage — all of it suddenly within reach. This is not just a boat. This is a completely different way to experience the Pacific Northwest.

The 2025 Wellcraft 38 Explorer was built for exactly this kind of water. Big, unpredictable, breathtakingly beautiful — the BC coast demands a vessel that can handle whatever it throws at you and still arrive in style. With a Michael Peters-designed deep-V hull proven in offshore conditions, triple supercharged Mercury V10 outboards, and a 264-gallon fuel tank, the 38 Explorer does not ask you to compromise between performance and range, between speed and seakeeping, or between adventure and comfort.

She runs at over 60 mph when the conditions invite it. She hunkers down and ploughs through it when they don't. And at anchor in some hidden cove at the end of a long day, she transforms into a comfortable, well-equipped retreat with air conditioning, a full genset, a proper ensuite cabin, and a cockpit grill ready for whatever you pulled up on the way in.

This example is fully loaded with virtually every factory option Wellcraft offers and ready to go anywhere on the BC coast — and beyond — from day one.

PROPULSION

Triple Mercury Verado 350 V10 XL outboards in Cold Fusion White. Each engine is a supercharged V10 producing 350 HP for a combined output of 1,050 HP. XL shaft length for the deeper drafts found throughout BC coastal waters. Digital throttle and shift. Active Trim. Mercury Joystick Piloting System included — making tight marina maneuvers in tidal currents and Pacific winds far more manageable. At cruise, the Michael Peters deep-V hull delivers close to 1 mile per gallon, giving the 38 Explorer genuine long-range capability along the coast.

PERFORMANCE

The 38 Explorer's resin-infused, non-stepped deep-V hull with its 20-degree transom deadrise was designed by Michael Peters — one of the most respected names in offshore performance hull design. The razor-sharp cutaway forefoot slices through chop rather than slamming into it, delivering a dry, controlled, and confidence-inspiring ride in the kind of short, steep Pacific swells common throughout the Strait of Georgia and Queen Charlotte Sound. She tucks into impressively tight turns for a vessel of this size, with three outboards driving the stern around with sports-boat precision. Speeds well into the 50s are effortless. 60 mph is on the table with all three V10s wound out.

HULL & DESIGN

The wheelhouse sits slightly offset to port, freeing up an extra-wide recessed sidedeck on starboard — so moving fore and aft is safe and secure underway in any sea state. A sliding side door at the helm allows the captain to step out quickly without leaving the cockpit. Fixed and opening sunroofs bring in natural light and fresh air on those rare perfect BC days. Up top, a triple-wide forward sun lounge with high backrests, fold-down armrests, and a removable dinette table creates a premium space for relaxing at anchor. Roof bars above the saloon accommodate paddleboards, kayaks, fishing rods, or gear — everything you need for a proper coastal expedition.

At the stern, two large side gates and a full swim platform with boarding ladder make getting in and out of the water easy. The aft cockpit enclosure in graphite colour provides real weather protection — not a token gesture — which matters on the BC coast where conditions can change quickly.

ACCOMMODATIONS

Below decks, the forward cabin features a near-queen berth with generous headroom, built-in storage, and large windows throughout for natural light. The dedicated ensuite head includes a vanity and separate shower — essential for multi-day trips up the coast. The wheelhouse dinette, equipped with the cushion conversion option, transforms into a comfortable second double berth, giving the 38 Explorer genuine multi-couple capability. The wheelhouse itself comfortably seats five, with the large top-hinged aft window opening fully to connect the interior to the cockpit — ideal for warm summer anchorages in the islands.
