Measuring 109 square feet, the 38 Open Billfish comes ready for battle with a laminated mounting plate in the Deck for a fighting chair or a rocket launcher (a Cockpit table is also offered). Other fishability features include in-deck insulated fish boxes port and starboard, a walk-through transom door and lift gate, a bait freezer with upper tray, a transom fish box and live well, rod holders, tackle storage and fresh and raw-water wash downs. Two-person Mezzanine-style seats flank the centerline walkthrough, and there’s refrigerated drink storage, as well as ample general storage throughout.

Available fully enclosed with climate control, the 38 Open Billfish’s Command Deck affords an abundance of seating, with port and starboard L-shaped lounges and storage below. A raised centerline Command Station gives the captain excellent sightlines and is equipped with a fiberglass (or optional teak) Helm pod, power-assist hydraulic steering with stainless steel wheel and Palm Beach style controls. Viking’s Palm Beach Towers can outfit the 38 Open Billfish with a custom Tuna Tower with a second Helm and a buggy top. Atlantic Marine Electronics, another Viking subsidiary, can build and install a custom package of navigation and communication equipment for turnkey delivery.

Day and Night Livability – Below Deck, the 38 Open Billfish makes full use of its 14-foot beam to maximize comfort and utility. Hand-finished, high-gloss teak and Amtico flooring complement an elegant climate-controlled living environment. The private Head, which is conveniently located immediately to port of the Companionway stairs, has a large walk-in shower with satin nickel fixtures and an attractive Corian-topped vanity with sink and storage. Forward of the Head and also on the port side, the Galley is fully appointed, with a Corian countertop, two-burner electric stove, microwave oven / convection oven, cabinet storage and under-counter drawer-style refrigeration with built-in ice maker.

Rest up in the Forward Stateroom, which has a lower double bunk and an upper single. There’s also a starboard-side hanging locker. A starboard-side sofa with storage can also be used as an additional bunk.

Efficient and Durable – As Viking continues to develop the Billfish series, their building methods and materials have gained efficiency, which adds even more value to these boats. A modified vinylester resin is used in the entire hull skin. End-grain balsa and closed-cell foam are used as coring materials in selected areas for optimized strength and stiffness while minimizing weight. The single integral fiberglass fuel tank, sealed to the hull with resin foam, is resin infused with balsa coring on all sides for stiffness. The hull-to-deck joint is mechanically fastened every three inches and fiberglassed inside.

Viking Engineering – For ease of maintenance, each engine and other critical machinery is located beneath electrically-actuated hatches in the Command Deck area. The Billfish Open is designed and built with many of the same mechanical systems, components and technologies found on larger Vikings. Examples include the Delta-T Engine Room ventilation system and a fire suppression system that’s automatically or manually operated and tied into the main engine and generator ignitions.

Running gear includes Class “S” pitch tolerance propellers with dynamic balancing and bronze struts, seacocks and rudders. The Engine Room, Lazarette and forward bilges are painted with Snow White Awlgrip for increased visibility and ease of maintenance. A large centerline hatch gives you quick access to the engines, optional Seakeeper SK 6 gyro and water maker, and fuel tank fittings. Both the 38 Billfish and 38 Open Billfish are powered with twin Cummins QSB diesels with 550 MHP.

The Viking Yacht Company has led the marine industry since 1964 in all aspects of boat design and construction, committed to producing innovative new yachts on a consistent basis. So it should come as no surprise that for every new Viking introduced, their in-house design and engineering teams have other models waiting for their turn in the spotlight.  Such is the case with their Billfish series. It is with great pride that Viking introduces their 46 Billfish.

Viking’s history has been to give their owners room to grow within a particular Viking family of boats, whether they’re talking about Vikings convertibles, or their open express and sport boats or motor yachts.  Now they’re simply following through with this type of product growth and diversity with the Billfish. Viking is sure these boats will meet and exceed all expectations.

The 46 Billfish will excel as either an owner/operator or captained Viking. Offering simplicity and ease of maintenance, she’s a ready-to-go fishing machine equipped for inshore and offshore missions as well as a versatile cruising boat with reliable inboard diesel power.

Cockpit & Command Deck – The 140-square-foot Cockpit has room for the entire crew or family. The 46 Billfish’s Command Deck can be completely enclosed and is climate-controlled. It’s perfect for anglers who want to get off their feet and cool down as the boat moves from one spot to the next. The Command Deck features a Salon-like living area with a roomy U-shaped lounge and Hi-Lo table and a lounge that extends along the starboard side. Both seating areas hold rod storage underneath.

Like Viking’s legendary Viking Convertibles, the 46 Billfish’s Flybridge is designed with a tournament-style Center Console walk-around Helm. The 46 Billfish has Palm Beach-style controls and power-assist hydraulic steering. Seating includes a single Release Marine teak chair (a second Helm chair is optional) and lounges to port and starboard and a forward console seat. Viking’s subsidiary Atlantic Marine Electronics can build and install a complete package of navigation and communication equipment to deliver the boat turnkey ready.

Accommodations – Rest up and recharge in the 46 Billfish’s air-conditioned Cabin. Featuring high-gloss teak cabinetry and custom Amtico flooring, the fully appointed starboard-side Galley has an L-shaped Corian countertop, a two-burner electric stove, a microwave oven / convection oven, cabinet storage and under-counter drawer-style refrigeration with a built-in ice maker. The first-class accommodations continue in the private Forward Stateroom, with its island queen bed, a hanging locker, upper storage cabinetry and a flat-screen TV with stereo, speakers and DVD player.

End-grain balsa and closed-cell foam are used as coring materials in selected areas for optimized strength and stiffness while minimizing weight. A popular model, the Hatteras 48 Convertible is a stylish tournament sportfishing boat from the late 1980’s. This was a period when Hatteras was one of the dominant names in the Convertible market – A brand closely identified with quality construction and world-class engineering. Heavily built on a low-deadrise Hull with Divinycell coring above the waterline, the Hatteras 48’s Two-Stateroom teak interior features a mid-level Galley and two Heads with separate stall showers. The Master Stateroom with tapered queen berth, built-in dressers and private Head with shower is forward, and the Guest Stateroom with over / under bunks and access to the Day Head is to starboard. A breakfast bar with two stools overlooks the Galley which is two steps down from the Salon level. Unlike many Convertibles her size, the Hatteras 48 lacks a dinette. The large fishing Cockpit came standard with a transom door, tackle center with sink, live well, and an Engine Room access door. Note the under-coaming air intakes. The Flybridge has three Helm chairs with guest seating forward of the Console. Standard 720 hp. 8V92 diesels cruise the Hatteras 48 at 22 – 23 knots.

Modern lines and a proven hull grace this comfortable Two-Stateroom interior, which features an innovative split Head plan with a dry Head and vanity to port and a separate stall shower to starboard. The cherry wood Salon offers a convertible sofa and plenty of room to entertain. The oversize Flybridge with pilot, companion and guest seating rounds out this value-packed model. Silverton engineers along with the help of noted designer Donald Blount and Associates have created an easily driven hull that performs well with smaller displacement engines providing better economy and increased range. Shallow propeller tunnels have lowered the drive angle to increase efficiency and reduce the draft as well. Silverton’s evolution of design and 35 years of experience will deliver the best 34′ Convertible ever and at a price that will make it irresistible.

On the heels of the award-winning 54 Convertible, Viking is proud to announce the all-new 64 Convertible.  This Four-Stateroom, Three-Head fishing battlewagon is poised to become another best-in-class superstar on the tournament circuit and the new standard in luxury, accommodations and comfort.

The 64’s unbroken S-shaped sheer flows gracefully from bow to stern. The swept-back black-masked windshield, pronounced hull and deckhouse feature lines and distinctive hull-side vents give the 64 an unmistakably Viking profile that is recognizable and revered around the world.

The Viking design team is constantly seeking new tools and technologies to build a better boat every day. Using Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) software, the 64’s running surface has been optimized to achieve the best performance possible. Viking’s in-house CFD allows the team to run numerous virtual sea trials to fine-tune the shape of the hull bottom for increased efficiency.

The hull is built with an engineered composite of fiberglass fabrics and coring that’s vacuum-infused with vinylester resin. Great stiffness and strength is brought to the structure while minimizing weight utilizing a calculated resin-to-fiberglass ratio. The structural bulkheads and fuel tanks (which are customized to the shape of the hull) are also resin infused, and the hull-to-deck is through-bolted every three inches and fiberglassed from inside for a rock-solid union.

The result of thousands of hours on the tournament trail, the 180-square-foot Cockpit is clean, streamlined and maximizes freedom of movement, with easy access to storage and service areas. Standard equipment is substantial. Flush rod holders; fresh and raw-water wash down systems; transom fish box with live well, rounded coamings with indirect rope lighting below; side lockers for tag stick and gaff storage; quick disconnect fitting for oil changes for the engines, transmissions and generator; port and starboard in-deck insulated fish and stowage boxes; and stereo speakers are all part of the package. The centerline Lazarette hatch (available with power actuation) opens nearly 90 degrees for full viewability and access to the available Seakeeper 26 as well as the steering, trim tabs and drain pumps. An aluminum backing plate is laminated into the Cockpit sole for a fighting chair, rocket launcher or table.

The Observation Mezzanine is designed to keep guests cool and dry thanks to the Flybridge overhang, as well as clear of the crew working in the Cockpit. For those in warm climates, Viking offers Mezzanine air conditioning. To starboard, freezer and cooler space is provided under the Mezzanine seating. A centerline hatch opens with stainless steel gas pistons for excellent access to the Engine Room. The port side holds more cooler storage and a tackle cabinet with drawers.

With a push of a button, the electric-powered Salon door slides open, revealing the 64’s spacious Salon. Like its two most recent predecessors, the Viking 54 and 58, the 64 features an open layout with a walkway that extends in a straight line from the Salon all the way to the forepeak, heightening the sense of depth and space.

The interior features horizontal natural walnut throughout, available in a hi-gloss or satin finish. The joinery work is phenomenal, with all cabinetry built in-house. The electrical distribution panel is immediately to port in a dedicated cabinet. Just forward is a 50″ pop-up HD TV, which is the centerpiece of the home theater center on the port side. The starboard-side L-shaped lounge (with storage underneath) provides plenty of room to stretch out and take a nap, or gather with the crew or family to watch a game or movie. There’s also a convenient walnut cocktail table so everyone has place for their drink.

The port-side dinette comfortably seats four adults. It sits on a raised platform that provides rod storage underneath while also enhancing the view out the tinted Salon windows. The dinette faces the feature-packed starboard-side Galley with walnut cabinetry, custom Amtico flooring and engineered stone counters (with an overhang that creates a bar area with two stools). Under-counter Sub-Zero refrigerator (2) and freezer (1) units with deep pull-out drawers, walnut cabinetry, a four-burner cooktop and a microwave oven / convection oven are just a few of the Galley’s standard amenities.

Like the Salon, the port-side Companionway and Four Staterooms feature premium carpeting, air conditioning and LED lighting. The Companionway is home to a convenient washer and dryer behind a walnut door. The Master and Forward Staterooms each feature queen-size walk-around berths with custom inner-spring mattresses with ample storage underneath, HD TVs and ensuite heads. A crossover berth arrangement is also available in the Forward Cabin as an option. To starboard you’ll find the spacious Midship Master, appointed with his-and-hers maple-lined hanging lockers, a credenza, end tables on each side of the bed and an HD TV. The Forward Guest Stateroom forward also provides hanging locker storage, as well as cabinets on the port and starboard sides of the bed and a Bomar foredeck hatch.

The port side is dedicated to a Guest (aft) and Crew Stateroom (forward). Both are appointed with the same high level of luxury and are uniquely designed to maximize comfort and function. The Guest Stateroom features side-by-side bunks, while the Crew Quarters have upper and lower bunks. Maple-lined hanging lockers, speakers recessed in the headliner and decorative indirect rope lighting round out the conveniences.

Both the Master and Guest Heads boast Amtico flooring, LED lighting, upper and lower vanities (with the latter featuring a curved walnut face), an engineered stone countertop and a walk-in shower with satin nickel fixtures.

The Flybridge mirrors other new generation Vikings with a space-saving streamlined walk-around Center Console. The beautifully crafted fiberglass module neatly holds a recessed black acrylic panel for flush-mounted all-glass electronics displays. The Helm is also equipped with Bocatech switching, recessed radio boxes with split lids, a custom Helm Pod with single-lever electronic controls, stainless steel steering wheel, trim tab switches and electronic trolling valves. The Flybridge layout makes excellent use of space, providing a variety and abundance of seating and storage. In addition to the Helm and two companion pedestal chairs, there’s lounge seating to port and starboard with storage below. A third two-person lounge with fold-down armrests (and massive freezer beneath it) is integrated into the Console’s forward end. It’s a great place to put your feet up and enjoy the ride home from the canyons. Nested in the four corners of the Flybridge are more smart storage solutions, including a sink and a refrigerated drink box.

Control of the electrical systems is easily managed, with conveniently located distribution panels in the Salon and Galley equipped with simple-to-use and clearly labeled conventional switches. In the Engine Room, a series of dedicated pumps for the air conditioning, live wells, washdown and other seawater-fed components have been designed, engineered and installed for durability and longevity.

The Engine Room, Lazarette, forward bilge and anchor locker are coated with Snow White Awlgrip, a highly durable urethane, for visibility and easier maintenance. The Engine Room houses numerous mechanical systems with superior performance and durability, including Engine Room ventilation, fire suppression and oil changing systems. Batteries are expertly mounted in custom fiberglass storage boxes, and the Engine Room is also home to a pair of battery chargers and an Onan 21.5 kW E-QD (electronic quiet diesel) Series genset with an option for a second.

The 64 will also be available as an Enclosed Bridge model, featuring Viking’s signature design that includes a complete forward Control Station, its own luxurious Salon with walnut cabinetry and HD TV, stairs from the Salon to the Bridge and a docking station on the aft deck.

Twin MAN V12 1550CRM (1550 MHP) diesels serve as the standard power.

The centerline Helm, with its pedestal seat on a raised platform, provides excellent visibility and is complemented by port (double) and starboard (single) companion seating. Three multi-function displays (up to 22-inches each) are flush mounted in a recessed black acrylic panel, contributing to the clean streamlined Helm design. Bocatech switches and other operational controls and instruments are located in a large radio box to port of the raised Helm pod. The MAN engine displays, auto pilot and VHF radios are nested in a recessed area molded into the hardtop underside.

Aft of the Helm, there is a convergence of practical and convenience features, including refrigeration and tackle and gear storage compartments. Plump cushions topping the port-side U-shape lounge, which surrounds a walnut table, will cradle your guests in comfort while providing ample height to take in the surroundings. With either, the forward Master Stateroom is large and fitted with a queen-size bed, plenty of storage behind the horizontal grain walnut cabinetry and served with a private Head. As you would expect, the Engine Room is equipped in the Viking tradition with outstanding engineering that is exclusive to this design and maximizes access and serviceability. Mechanical and electrical equipment includes a Delta-T ventilation system with supply and discharge fans for proper fresh air supply and water suppression; an oil changing system for the engines, transmission and generator; and a fire suppression system. The 54 also comes standard with an Onan 21.5kW E-QD (electronic quiet diesel) Series generator.

Building a better boat every day tells the story of each Viking yacht as it cruises along its evolutionary trail. When the first Viking 48 Convertible was launched in 1985 it was a powerful introduction that quickly went to the head of the fleet. Early models launched with J & T turbo-charged 6V92TA Detroit Diesels and were soon followed with 8V92TA making waves as the fastest in its class. The interior featured man-sized appointments, with a fashion plate of luxury details, rich teak joinery and opulent designer furnishings. This was a popular boat and Viking built it steadily for five years.

Another 48 Convertible appeared on the scene in 2002. It featured a completely different hull and topside, a newer fresher interior layout that was more accommodating for both fishing and cruising. Where the earlier 48 Convertible was a sharply defined and angular at every corner and turn, the second generation 48 Convertible was an ice cream smooth operator with endless curves that melded together in a singular statement of beauty. From the sheer to the Bridge to the Cockpit, there wasn’t a straight line on the boat. The Flying Bridge was twice the size of the previous 48 Convertible with more room fore and aft. The Salon was even better with its U-shape Galley, dinette, and a larger sofa. Frameless windows replaced the maintenance heavy metal frames of the previous boat. Two and three Stateroom layouts made good use of space. Engineering improvements added more versatility like Engine Room access from the Cockpit, and with Viking’s subsidiaries, Atlantic Marine Electronics and Palm Beach Towers, now part of the Viking organization, this 48 Convertible could be delivered turnkey ready.

Fast forward to today and totally new 48 Convertible has joined the Viking product line. The exterior is sleek and powerful and the boat makes an impressive statement even resting at the dock. The wraparound black metallic windshield mask, window lines and Flying Bridge feature treatments reveal how far Viking has come with this evolutionary theme. The resin infused hull is beamy and carries its breadth farther aft for more interior room and a wider Cockpit. The raked entry and forward chine are designed to pierce through head seas and divert spray downward. Convex hull sections add curvature and form to the running surface, while molded running strakes accentuate lateral tracking and maneuverability.

The lush interior is rich in detail with Viking’s signature hand-finished teak or walnut joinery depending upon the owner’s selection. Taking advantage of the spacious beam, the Salon abounds with stylish appointments throughout the Salon with an L-shape lounge and cocktail table, as well as an inviting dinette, which anchor the area for relaxing and entertaining. To starboard the peninsula Galley has a raised bar top and is accented with Cambria treatments, under counter refrigeration, a microwave oven / convection oven and ample stowage behind the maple-lined cabinetry. Overnight accommodations are plush with three Staterooms and two Heads providing all the comfort and privacy you need for fishing and cruising in style. A Laundry Center and central vacuum system add sophisticated convenience.

On the Flying Bridge, the Center Console Helm and flanking lounges are tournament proven and will make the Viking 48 Convertible the envy of anything in its class with its custom navigation and communication systems provided by Atlantic Marine Electronics. Powered with MAN diesels the 48 Convertible will cruise at 30 knots with a top end in the mid 30 knot range depending upon engine selection, load, sea and other environmental factors. Engine Room access is through the Observation Mezzanine in the 124 square-foot Cockpit, which features flush rod holders, a transom fish box, and recessed fish and stowage wells in the nonslip fiberglass sole. A transom door with lift gate, a drink box, a bait cooler and tackle stowage are standard. The Lazarette is designed to accommodate a SeaKeeper gyro stabilizer, which can be installed at the factory or a later date.

Whether moving up or moving down throughout Viking’s world famous fleet, you will find the 48 Convertible a true blue-water champion in spirit, performance, accommodations and evolutionary prowess in the herald Viking tradition.

Two-person, Mezzanine-style seats flank the centerline walkthrough, and there’s refrigerated drink storage in the starboard Mezzanine step, as well as ample general stowage throughout.

The private Head, which is conveniently located immediately to port of the Companionway stairs, has a large walk-in shower with satin nickel fixtures, an attractive Corian-topped vanity with sink and storage and a medicine cabinet with mirrored doors. Easily accessible upper and lower bunks on the port side await weary anglers, and there’s a hanging locker only a few steps away. The first-class accommodations continue in the private Forward Stateroom, with its island queen bed, a hanging locker, upper storage cabinetry and a flat-screen TV with stereo, speakers and DVD player.

The integral fiberglass fuel tank, sealed to the hull with resin foam, is resin infused with balsa coring on all sides for stiffness. The hull-to-deck joint is mechanically fastened every three inches and fiberglassed inside.

Viking Engineering – The Billfish is designed and built with many of the same mechanical systems, components and technologies found on larger Vikings.

A large centerline hatch gives you quick access to the engines and optional Seakeeper SK 6 gyro. Twin Cummins QSM11 715 MHP diesels provide the standard power for the 46 Billfish, while twin MAN I6-800 CRM 800 MHP are optional.
