Key Features
The Monterey 278 Super Sport remains one of the bigger open-bow runabouts produced in this country. Built on a deep-V hull with a wide 8’6″ beam, the focal point of the 278 is her large cockpit with its aft bench seat that folds down to increase the size of the existing sun pad. A contoured lounge is opposite the helm, abutting a small console with wet bar, and the double-wide helm seat has a flip-up bolster for standup driving. An enclosed head is in the opposite cooler. There’s plenty of storage under the back-to back helm seats, and the sun pad lifts up to reveal the engine compartment. Standard features include an extended swim platform, docking lights, pull-up cleats, transom shower, fender storage, and VacuFlush toilet. An excellent open-water performer, 350hp MerCruiser gas sterndrives cruise the 278 SS in the low 30s and reach a top speed of 40 knots. An elite sound system and Garman GPS were added to this boat.
