The Southport 272 (called the Southport 26 in 2005–11) is a top-tier center console whose solid construction and strictly business layout are a match for the best boats in this class. The Southport is built on a vacuum-bagged variable deadrise hull with a flared bow, reverse transom and wide 9'6" beam. Designed for modern 4-stroke outboards, Southport uses no wood in its boats opting instead for fiberglass and composite materials. The deck plan of the original 26 has forward seating with insulated fish boxes under, walk-in console with sink and marine toilet, double-wide helm seat, transom bait prep center, and aft-facing cockpit seats with 43-gallon livewell and tackle compartments under. The 272 TE (Tournament Edition) introduced in 2015 replaced the standard front seating with an 80-gallon coffin box and features an upgraded livewell system, redesigned console, and a reconfigured T-top and leaning post. A handsome boat, the Southport is an extremely well built—all hoses are double-clamped, plumbing and electrical work is easily accessible, and fit and finish is well above average. A popular model over the years, twin Yamaha F250 outboards top out at close to 45 knots.
